Full-service Indian airline Vistara has added a new international destination to its network: Doha in Qatar. This time, however, it's something special as Doha has become Vistara's 50th destination, and the airline will launch flights between Mumbai and Doha later this month.
Destiny 50
Vistara has announced that its network now has 50 destinations. The latest addition, Doha, will soon operate flights from Mumbai from December 15. The airline will use one of its Airbus A321neo aircraft equipped with in-flight entertainment screens. Vinod Kannan, CEO of Vistara, said:
“We are pleased to introduce direct flights between Mumbai and Doha, the capital of Qatar and a fast-growing financial hub in the Middle East. Given the growing economic importance of the city, this move not only further strengthens our presence in the Gulf region but also enhances our network offering from our hub in Mumbai. We hope our customers will appreciate flying on this route with India’s best airline.”
The Mumbai-Doha sector is popular as there are three other airlines operating on this route, so Vistara will have some competition. According to Cirium Aviation Analytics, IndiGo has the most monthly return flights between the two cities in December (124), followed by Air India (80) and Qatar Airways (62).
Other recent Vistara flight launches
Vistara's recent flight launches come at a time when the airline is all set to integrate its operations with Air India. Still, until the deal is officially signed, Vistara will continue to expand its reach. International expansion is of particular importance for the airline, as evidenced by some of its recent launches.
On December 1, it became the only airline to connect Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) with Denpasar International Airport (DPS) in Bali, Indonesia. Vistara hopes to attract a lot of customers for this flight as Bali is quite popular among Indian tourists, especially during the winter months.
Last month, the airline also introduced a new long-haul service to Europe, connecting Mumbai with Frankfurt and serving this route with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The six-day flight to Mumbai joins Vistara's other flight from Mumbai, which connects it to London Heathrow five times a week, also using a Boeing 787.
Passengers also have another reason to choose Vistara for their international flights, as the airline recently announced that members of its loyalty program are eligible for free WiFi service on international flights.
Vistara currently offers these services on international flights operated by the Dreamliner and Airbus A321neo fleet. It has also made it easy for customers to avail this service by simply registering with Club Vistara, which requires no fees or charges.
