Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has inaugurated seven mega projects at the Cochin International Airport (CIAL). At a ceremony at CIAL, Vijayan officially inaugurated the Import Cargo Terminal, DigiYatra software and Airport Emergency Services at the international airport. He also announced plans for the premium airline lounge '0484', an intrusion detection system at airports and golf resorts. He also announced plans for the first phase of Terminal 3 development. Vijayan claimed that Kerala is offering an alternative to the public at a time when even the major PSUs in the country like the airports are being privatized. “We are currently in a period where even the strategic public sector enterprises in this country are being privatized. However, public sector organizations are flourishing and protected in Kerala. We even acquired the public sector companies that the Center had put up for sale. Vijayan commented. He asserted that Kerala's PSUs offer a viable alternative to privatization in that sector. According to Vijayan, the Indian aviation industry is expecting an annual growth of 9.7% and CIAL's terminal expansion is being carried out to meet future demand. The number of parking spaces will increase to 44 with the addition of the eight additional aero bridges. According to Vijayan's Facebook post yesterday, the planned airline lounge would include 42 luxury rooms, a restaurant, a mini conference hall, a meeting room, a gym and a spa.
