Ahmedabad: New cargo terminal inaugurated at SVPI Airport

A new cargo terminal at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) in Ahmedabad was inaugurated last week after a 10-month delay for regulatory approvals and the execution of operational works.

The new terminal, which can handle 100 tons (MT) of cargo per day and 3,500 MT per month when in operation 24 hours a day, will improve the import and export traffic of the SVPI airport.

According to a statement from the SVPI airport operator, Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), the additional cargo handling capacity at the airport provides an additional choice of services for trade at the airport, in addition to adding incremental cargo handling capacity to the airport cargo infrastructure.

The infrastructure and accessibility of the new cargo terminal for both domestic and international passenger terminals is expected to significantly improve cargo handling at the airport.

The terminal provides complete terminal handling services including city handling, security functions, warehousing, terminal handling and airside handling, all of which are closely monitored and monitored to ensure cargo safety.

All foreign cargo is currently handled by the Ahmedabad Air Cargo Complex of Gujarat State Export Corporation (GSEC) Limited.

According to estimates, the SVPI airport handled 60,749 tons of cargo in fiscal year (FY) 2020-21.

The new terminal can handle general pharmaceutical items, including perishable foodstuffs that must be stored between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.

Machine components, console freight, ready-to-wear, textiles, dyes, chemicals, expensive freight and other goods will be handled at the terminal.

A dedicated airside transshipment facility and international courier handling corridor will soon be added to the terminal complex.
