Former Karnataka CM B S Yediyurappa told media that construction of the airport in Sogane near Shivamogga would be completed by December this year.

On April 18, 2022, CM, his son, Lok Sabha member B Y Raghavendra and officials inspected the construction progress of the runway, passenger terminal and other infrastructure at the proposed airport.

Yediyurappa said it would be the second best airport in Karnataka after Bengaluru International Airport. It will have all the necessary facilities to provide high-quality services to air travelers.

According to the engineers, the air traffic control tower (ATC) would be ready by June and said the other works would be completed by December 2022. The government of Karnataka has picked up the airport construction project at an estimated cost of Rs 384 crores.

Former CM suggested Raghavendra to request CM Basavaraj Bommai to visit the site and inspect the progress of the construction works.

CM Basavaraj Bommai will make a three-day visit to Shivamogga from April 19, where he will participate in a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally in the city.
