Dabolim airport director Gagan Malik told media that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has approved a multi-level parking garage (MLCP) at Dabolim airport and will be operational this month.
The MLCP facility was completed in 2021, but safety-related issues came to the fore.
Malik said this facility would reduce parking and traffic congestion at the airport.
He said additional land would be acquired opposite Dabolim airport for further parking requirements.
He said that after the airports of Chennai and Kolkata, Goa was ranked third by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) based on the number of passengers handled.
Goa recently registered a frequent increase in the number of visitors.
Malik said that according to International Civil Aviation Organization standards, there should be multiple modes of transportation for air travelers to reach the airport and vice versa. For example, the airport should have cars, buses, taxis and multimodal modes of transport for all passengers.
