The deadline for submitting proposals to the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) to find a consultant to make a techno-economic report for the green airport of Parandur is extended. The deadline for opening registrations was originally January 6, but that is now the case postponed for a month. On the 4,500 hectares of land already reserved for the project, about 70 kilometers from the city, the consultant will conduct the investigation, prepare a report and choose builders for the new airport. According to sources, the company asked for more time because of holiday season, extending the deadline for bidders to submit their bids.
“All participants in the pre-bid meeting have asked for extra time because of work preparing documents and other work is expected to be delayed due to holidays between Christmas, New Year and Pongal," said an official. The initiative has received positive feedback, and the work will be completed once all studies are completed, he said. The chosen consultant will create a thorough techno-economic report including a traffic forecast, market analysis, aviation sector study, evaluation of the project site, including an obstacle mitigation subsurface study, creation of airport master plan, economic and financial analysis, environmental and social impact assessment, and obtain regulatory approvals. The existing airport in Meenambakkam can be expanded with some restrictions hence the government plans to build a new airport with a capacity to handles 100 million passengers annually at a cost of INR 200 billion.
