Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Vice Chairman and General Manager of CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation), provided an update on several connectivity projects related to the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL) is currently developing the NMIA as an international airport to meet the growing demand for air travel in the Mumbai metropolitan region.
The project scope includes the (phased) development of an international airport with a capacity of at least 60 million passengers per year (MPPA) and 1.5 million tons of cargo per year.
NMIAL is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established for the design, construction, financing, operation and transfer of the project (DBFOT) involving Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited , and CIDCO participate in 74:26 equity.
The CIDCO has finished acquiring the land and has given it to the developer. In addition, the environmental permit is on its way.
The project has reached its financial target after the State Bank of India (SBI), a public sector lender, took responsibility for the entire loan requirement of Rs 128 billion.
The original end date for the project was 2021. The current end date is 2024.
To increase the accessibility of the airport, a number of new roads are planned, including the Thane-Creek Bridge, Goregaon-Mulund Link Road and Mumbai Trans Harbor Link.
With a jetty built into the airport, it will also be connected to the water. The Mumbai port of Bhaucha Dhakka will be connected to this jetty.
The MTHL is a 21.8 km six-lane, two-lane bridge that will connect Sewri in South Mumbai to Chirle in Navi Mumbai over a 16.11 km sea link.
It would provide direct access to the Navi Mumbai International Airport across the east coast and is described as India's longest sea bridge.
