More domestic and international flights would depart from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), while the GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) is accelerating the airport expansion. As construction progresses, the extension is expected to be completed in 2023.
When completed, the airport will be able to meet the increasing demand for passenger traffic and expand its passenger handling capacity to more than 34 million people per year.
The renovated airport would have 149 check-in counters, 26 security checkpoints with ATRS and 44 immigration counters. The expanded domestic and international pier buildings will have more lounges, shops and F&B outlets. With additional infrastructure added to the east and west pier buildings, 44 contact gates, 28 remote departure gates and nine remote arrival gates will be available for smooth operation.
