The construction of the runway at the proposed largest international airport of Jewar has started. Tata Projects, which has been awarded the tender for the construction of the track, has started measuring and marking the track. Temporary offices are also located on the site, with limited access for citizens to the area.
According to local lawmaker Dhirendra Singh, the first flight from the proposed international airport is expected to depart in 2024, ahead of the next parliamentary election.
“Work is progressing at a rapid pace and we will see the first flight take off in early 2024. Land acquisition for the next phase of the airport is progressing smoothly,” said Singh.
When completed, this airport will become not only India's largest and fourth largest airport, but also Asia-Pacific's largest transit hub.
“A transit hub is a specialized airport for passenger and cargo management for connecting flights. Once completed, this airport will be the largest such airport in Asia Pacific. This means there will be a boom in the storage sector in Jewar, Greater Noida, Noida and nearby areas, and it will result in the creation of thousands of jobs,” Singh said.
In addition, an aircraft maintenance center is proposed for the airport site. The center will be the first and only aircraft service facility in India, saving millions of Indian rupees currently paid abroad for aircraft repair and maintenance.
