ACFI announces new governing board for 2022-24

Yashpal Sharma, Managing Director – Skyways Group has been named ACFI's new president for this term. On the occasion, Cyrus Katgara, the former president, handed over the mantle to the new president. Katgara will officially join the current board. He will continue to support ACFI and help it achieve its goals of boosting the Indian economy.

Commenting on his new role as newly elected president, Sharma said: "I would like to thank my co-founders, past presidents, the ACFI Secretariat and all past board members for their invaluable and passionate contribution to ACFI and the air cargo community. It would be my most important strive to work with the new board members and focus on achieving ACFI's vision and goals. While we have aligned ourselves with the MoCA target of 10 MMT by 2030-31, it would take a determined effort from all of us to drive process improvements, synchronize all stakeholders, including government agencies, and set short, medium, and long-term goals and, most importantly, execute them to perfection within set timelines.”

A well-known name in the logistics industry, Sharma is the MD of Skyways Group, which offers a broad spectrum of logistics and supply chain services, including air freight, ocean freight, road transport and express services to name a few. Skyways Group is an internationally renowned, leading forwarding company. Sharma is also the former president of Air Cargo Club of Delhi (ACCD).

Prominent names from the air cargo industry form the board for 2022-24, including Ramesh Mamidala, Chief Cargo Officer of Adani Airport Holdings Limited as the Hon. secretary and Arun Kumar, Managing Director of InSynergy Supply Chain Solutions Private Limited as the Hon. Treasurer.

The "Air Cargo Forum India" - ACFI is an association of all major stakeholders of the air cargo logistics supply chain industry including airlines, airport operators, cargo terminal operators, freight forwarders, customs brokers, express industry, truck drivers, etc. Its purpose is to steer and promote the development of the air freight and logistics industry in India and align it with the best air freight ecosystems in the world. It is the only national association with industry stakeholder representation on its board of directors. ACFI has been working very closely with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on its vision to achieve the goal of bringing India's airspace to 10 million tons from its current 3.1 million tons by 2030-31.

At the 10th annual ACFI event held in May 2022, the Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia, stated that air freight had started as an underdog during the pandemic, but has now grown into a game-changer and has ably adapted to the changing environment. Now is the time for the entire freight community to step up their paces and ensure they succeed in realizing the 2030-31 vision. He also appreciated ACFI's efforts for the growth of the Indian air freight industry.
