The highly anticipated and under construction greenfield airport at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh could be called Donyi Polo Airport as proposed by the state government.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu suggested the name to the Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

CM Khandu urged consideration of the proposed name and said that as Scindia is the only airport in the capital, it would be appropriate to name the airport, in honor of the ancient indigenous people's reverence for the sun (Donyi) and the moon (Polo), Donyi Polo Airport.

Arunachal Pradesh, also known as the Hollongi Airport, is set to be inaugurated on August 15, 2022, on the occasion of National Independence Day.
