The development of Kadapa Airport is accelerating with the support of the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) programme, a government initiative launched in 2016 to promote affordable air travel for rural areas. Airport Director Sujith Kr Poddar recently gave updates on the airport’s progress and future plans.
Looking ahead, the airport’s capacity and infrastructure will be boosted with the construction of a new terminal building, expected to be operational in 2026. The upgraded facility is designed to enhance the passenger experience and meet growing travel demand.
Locals have appreciated the impact of the UDAN programme, particularly in improving connectivity to key cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, where many daily wage earners from Kadapa travel to for work. Some have called for further measures, such as flight subsidies for ration card holders, to support frequent travellers.
Moshes Jashuva, a resident of Kadapa, emphasized the importance of the scheme: “UDAN scheme is a game-changer for residents of Kadapa. Earlier, we had to rely on Chennai airport. Prime Minister Modi is introducing affordable schemes that make air travel accessible.”
The continued growth of Kadapa Airport under the UDAN programme is a promising step towards improved regional connectivity and economic opportunities for residents.
