Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 23 major projects worth Rs 6,611.18 crore, including seven airport expansions, during his visit to his constituency on October 20. The inauguration included completed projects at Rewa airport (Madhya Pradesh), Ambikapur airport (Chhattisgarh) and Sarsawa airport (Saharanpur, UP), along with laying foundation for expansions at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (Varanasi) and new terminals at Bagdogra airport (West Bengal), Darbhanga airport (Bihar) and Agra airports.
Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma confirmed that the cost of the LBSI Airport expansion and new terminal building is Rs 2,870 crore. Other airport projects include the New Civil Enclave at Bagdogra (Rs 1,550 crore), Darbhanga (Rs 912 crore) and Agra (Rs 579 crore).
In addition, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for a new academic block and girls' hostel at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Arajiline, Varanasi, at a cost of Rs 4.17 crore.
Projects slated for inauguration include new terminal buildings for Rewa Airport (Rs 91 crore), Maa Mahamaya Airport in Ambikapur (Rs 80.32 crore) and the New Civil Enclave at Sarsawa Airport (Rs 54.56 crore). In Varanasi, the Prime Minister will inaugurate 14 projects worth Rs 380.13 crore, including the redevelopment of Varanasi Sports Complex Sigra (Rs 216.29 crore), pro-poor tourism development in Sarnath (Rs 90.20 crore) and several hostel and infrastructure projects in the region.
A private project for the construction of RJ Shankara Eye Hospital, worth Rs 90 crore, will also be inaugurated.
