Singapore-based ST Engineering has signed an exclusive 15-year maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) contract with India’s Akasa Air for the maintenance of the CFM LEAP-1B engines powering the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX fleet.
As part of the agreement, ST Engineering will provide the first Performance Restoration Shop Visit (PRSV) service for Akasa’s LEAP-1B engines at its Singapore facility. The partnership covers Akasa Air’s current fleet of 25 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, along with a further 201 aircraft expected to be delivered over the next eight years.
Earlier this year, Akasa Air signed a separate agreement with engine manufacturer CFM International to purchase more than 300 LEAP-1B engines to support its growing fleet of Boeing 737 MAX jets, bringing the airline’s confirmed order book to 226 aircraft.
Daniel Saldanha, Vice President – Maintenance and Engineering at Akasa Air, expressed confidence in ST Engineering’s expertise and stated that the collaboration will ensure optimal operational performance and a reliable travel experience for its passengers.
ST Engineering recently announced the successful establishment of LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engine testing facilities at its Singapore facility. The capacity is now being expanded to include LEAP Performance Restoration Shop Visit services.
Backed by the Jhunjhunwala family, Akasa Air began operations in August 2022 and has since expanded to international routes, including West Asia.
