Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia told media that at least 8-9 more airports will be leased in the next round.
Of the huge Rs 62,000 crore of debt in Air India's books when it was transferred to the Tatas, the Government of India (RvI) has closed its share of Rs 47,000 crore by paying off all the banks involved in it.
The Tatas took on Rs 15,300 crore in debt where they have since renegotiated the terms and refinanced it by attracting new lenders.
Scindia said the Tatas paid out Rs 2,700 crore in cash and took over Rs 15,300 crore of debt from the airlines.
