IndiGo, India's largest airline, has taken a remarkable step by deciding to introduce a customized premium business product service. For the past eighteen years, the airline has offered a simple, one-class flight service. By the end of the year, this product will be operational and accessible on the country's busiest commercial routes. More information about the debut date and routes of the product offering will be revealed in August, around IndiGo's birthday.
The news was announced on the same day the airline announced that its revenues for the fiscal year 2023-24 (April-March) reached a record Rs 71,231 crore. Since the epidemic, the airline has recovered well and posted six consecutive quarters of profit at the end of March.
According to the report, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said in a conference call with analysts on Thursday evening that India is changing rapidly and the needs of Indian consumers are also changing rapidly. Elbers added that against this backdrop, and looking at IndiGo's network with a fair number of routes, very high frequency and high levels of business travel, the company collectively felt that this was the right time to move into that space. The report notes that August will mark the 18th year since IndiGo started operations.
The airline's goal is to redefine premium air travel domestically and offer varied options to many travelers.
